On Monday evening at around 7:15 pm near Belbagh Chowk on Lakshmi Road, Anil Laxman Ambure, a 41-year-old PMPML bus driver from Warje Malwadi, suddenly suffered a severe heart attack while driving a bus on the Pune Station to Kothrud-Kumbre Park route (bus number MH-12-QG-2067).

The area was heavily crowded due to ongoing Ganesh festival shopping, with many people gathered on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Road. Police personnel Romes Dhawre and Archana Nimgare from the Faraskhana Traffic Division were on duty managing traffic at the busy chowk.

As Ambure began to feel unwell behind the wheel, passengers panicked and immediately alerted the traffic officers. Responding swiftly, Dhawre and Nimgare pulled the unconscious driver out of the bus and laid him on the footpath. Constable Dhawre began administering CPR to stabilize Ambure.

Realizing the gravity of the situation and that an ambulance would not be able to reach the scene quickly due to the heavy crowd, the officers informed Assistant Police Inspector Sandeep Madale and Sub-Inspector Sanjay Gaikwad of the Faraskhana Division. They then stopped an auto-rickshaw driven by Rajesh Shankar Arkal, a Market Yard resident.

With police assistance, Ambure was carefully placed inside the rickshaw, which skillfully navigated through the dense traffic and rushed to a nearby private hospital, Poona Hospital. Thanks to the timely medical attention provided there, Ambure’s life was saved.

The quick thinking and coordinated efforts of traffic police officers Dhawre and Nimgare, along with the prompt help of rickshaw driver Arkal, played a critical role in saving the driver’s life amidst the festival rush.
