Pune: Wagholi Residents To Stage Protest Over Worsening Kesnand Road
Pune, August 28, 2025 – Residents of Wagholi have raised strong objections over the severely deteriorated condition of the Wagholi–Kesnand Road, where travelling a mere half-kilometre stretch now takes up to 45 minutes due to potholes, encroachments, and poor upkeep.
The Wagholi Housing Society Association (WHSA) has announced a peaceful road strike to highlight the growing crisis and demand immediate intervention from civic authorities. The protest is scheduled for August 30, 2025, at 10:00 AM outside Konark Orchid Society Main Gate, Kesnand Road.
Residents allege that despite repeated complaints, no substantial action has been taken to repair the pothole-ridden road, clear illegal encroachments, or ensure regular maintenance. Daily commuters face traffic chaos, vehicle damage, and serious safety hazards, particularly during monsoon.
Gopal Dhole, director, Wagholi Housing Society Association stated that the residents are now frustrated as the problems are mounting and there is no respite. The authorities are neglecting the welfare of the residents.
“We will be holding a peaceful protest at a designated location to highlight the plight of residents over the neglected Kesnand Road in Wagholi. Forget about having a proper road; neither PMC nor PWD has managed to repair potholes or provide basic maintenance. This negligence has led to frequent accidents and severe traffic congestion,” said Santosh Krishna, from the Wagholi Housing Society Association.
Key Demands of the Protesters:
- Urgent repair and resurfacing of damaged road sections.
- Removal of illegal encroachments from roads and footpaths.
- Implementation of a long-term maintenance plan with regular monitoring.
“Roads are lifelines, not death traps,” said a WHSA spokesperson, urging residents to join the movement for safer, smoother roads.
