Neglected walkway restored after nearly 20 years following civic push and BBMP action

A broken, garbage-strewn footpath that lay in disrepair for almost two decades has finally been restored, all thanks to a viral video posted by Canadian citizen Caleb Friesen and swift follow-up by civic authorities and local residents.

The long-neglected walkway, which connects Domlur to Indiranagar, was repaired within a week after the video drew widespread attention online. In the clip, Friesen attempted to use the pathway but was seen struggling through debris and broken slabs, joking that he had to rely on “parkour and gymnastics” to get across.

The post quickly sparked conversations across social media, amplifying calls for the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to act. Responding to the momentum, BBMP officials, civic groups and local volunteers came together to fix the stretch.

Arun Pai, founder of Bangalore Walks, later shared a video of the repaired footpath, now accessible to pedestrians for the first time in nearly 20 years. He credited Friesen’s viral post for triggering the turnaround.

“We are going to walk on a footpath from Domlur to Indiranagar, something which was not possible for the last 20 years,” Pai said. “Earlier, people had to risk their lives crossing busy traffic. Now, all design flaws have been fixed, and it is an easy pathway to walk.”

The BBMP Zonal Commissioner (East), Snehal R, also joined residents in walking down the rejuvenated stretch, symbolising the completion of a much-needed civic improvement.
