Pune: Passenger Reports Foreign Object In Soft Drink On SpiceJet Flight From Goa
Pune, September 10, 2025: A SpiceJet passenger on flight SG 1080 from Goa to Pune on Monday alleged that he discovered a metal object in a sealed soft drink can served onboard, sparking concern among co-passengers and triggering a social media debate over in-flight safety.
According to accounts shared online, a co-passenger claimed the man consumed the beverage, experienced discomfort, and was rushed to a hospital after the flight landed. The incident quickly drew attention, raising questions about safety checks on board.
In response, SpiceJet issued a detailed statement clarifying its procedures. The airline emphasized that all beverages served on its flights are handed over in sealed condition, with passengers themselves unsealing them before consumption.
“The passenger had ordered a sealed soft drink can along with a packet of fox nuts, which were served as per protocol. After consuming the drink, he reported discomfort and alleged the presence of a foreign metal object,” the airline said.
Cabin crew immediately assisted the passenger, checked for a doctor onboard (none was available), and informed both the captain and airport authorities. An ambulance was arranged in advance, and upon arrival in Pune, the passenger was examined by the airport medical team before being referred to a hospital.
Medical tests, including X-rays of the throat, chest, and abdomen, showed no foreign object. Although doctors advised an endoscopy, the passenger declined. He was discharged later the same evening. SpiceJet confirmed that it covered all medical expenses and that airline staff remained with the passenger throughout the treatment.
As part of its standard procedure, the soft drink can was retained for vendor investigation, with the passenger given the option to document evidence before it was secured.
The incident continues to circulate online, highlighting growing concerns about passenger safety and quality checks in air travel.
