Weather Alert: Heavy Rain Forecast in Maharashtra on September 13, IMD Issues Alerts for 24 Districts
Pune, September 12, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Maharashtra on Saturday, September 13, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of the state.
A total of 24 districts across Konkan, Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha have been placed under yellow and orange alerts. Citizens, farmers, and travelers have been urged to remain cautious.
Rainfall Forecast by Region:
- Konkan & Mumbai Region:
Palghar, Thane, and Mumbai are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall. Raigad and Ratnagiri may see moderate rain, while Sindhudurg has been placed under a yellow alert for heavy showers. - Western Maharashtra:
Pune (ghat areas), Kolhapur (ghat regions), Satara (ghat regions), Sangli, and Solapur are expected to witness thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds, accompanied by moderate rainfall. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for these areas. - Marathwada:
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Jalna districts may experience light to moderate rain. Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, and Dharashiv could see thunderstorms with lightning, prompting a yellow alert. Nanded and Latur districts face a higher risk with forecasts of heavy to very heavy rainfall, leading to an orange alert. - North Maharashtra:
Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, and Nashik are expected to get light to moderate rainfall, including Nashik’s ghat regions. Ahmednagar may witness thunderstorms with lightning, for which a yellow alert has been issued. - Vidarbha:
Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, and Nagpur may see thunderstorms with light to moderate rain. Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal are under a yellow alert for heavy rainfall with lightning and thunder.
Advisory:
The IMD has cautioned that rainfall intensity will remain high on September 13, with varying conditions across districts—ranging from light showers to very heavy downpours. Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, farmers are urged to take preventive measures for standing crops, and local administrations have been directed to stay alert for possible disruptions.
