Weather Alert: Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Forecast for 32 Districts in Maharashtra on September 14
Mumbai/Pune, September 13: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather alert for Maharashtra, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds across 32 districts on Sunday, September 14.
According to the IMD, South Konkan is likely to witness intense downpours at isolated locations, while South Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada may experience heavy showers accompanied by lightning and wind speeds of 30-40 kmph. In North Madhya Maharashtra, districts are expected to see light to moderate rain with thunderstorms.
In Mumbai city and suburbs, cloudy skies with moderate showers are likely during the day, with a possibility of heavy rainfall by evening or night. The maximum temperature in Mumbai is expected to be 30°C and the minimum around 24°C. Neighboring districts like Palghar, Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri are also on alert, with Raigad placed under an Orange Alert, while the rest remain under a Yellow Alert.
In Western Maharashtra, IMD has predicted thunderstorms with wind speeds of 30–40 kmph, along with heavy rain in many areas. All districts in the region are under a Yellow Alert.
North Maharashtra, including Nashik, Ahmednagar, and Jalgaon, will see thunderstorms and heavy showers, while Dhule and Nandurbar remain exceptions without an alert.
In Marathwada, all eight districts are under a Yellow Alert, with Dharashiv and Latur expected to receive particularly heavy rainfall. Similarly, all 11 districts of Vidarbha are on alert, with Akola, Amravati, Nagpur, and Bhandara expected to see isolated heavy rainfall.
Overall, barring Dhule, Nandurbar, and Sindhudurg, all districts in Maharashtra are under Yellow or Orange Alerts. IMD has also cautioned that September 14, 15, and 16 could bring widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall across the state.
