Automated parking system of Matunga high-rise without OC comes crashing down, raising safety concerns

Mumbai witnessed a major scare on Monday, September 15, when a three-storey automated car parking system collapsed at Tridhaatu Aaroha, a 17-storey high-rise located on KAS Road near King’s Circle Station in Matunga, damaging several vehicles.

The incident occurred around 3:15 pm when the mechanical parking structure, operated via electric switches, came crashing down with a loud thud. While no injuries were reported, the mishap has raised serious questions about the safety of automated parking systems in residential complexes.

Residents revealed that Tridhaatu Aaroha has been occupied for over three years despite lacking an Occupancy Certificate (OC) and fire NOC—both mandatory for lawful occupation. The building, developed by Tridhaatu Realty, has faced prolonged delays, forcing families to move in without the required approvals.

An eyewitness described the terrifying moment: “I heard a loud thud sound, and by the time I rushed to check, all three levels of the puzzle parking had collapsed.”

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s building and factories department confirmed both the collapse and the absence of an OC. Meanwhile, Muthukumar Krishnan, one of the owners of Tridhaatu Realty, acknowledged that maintenance work was underway at the time of the incident.

Authorities are now under pressure to investigate the collapse and enforce stricter compliance on builders who allow occupation without mandatory safety clearances.
