Pune: PMC Demolishes Over 54,000 Sq. Ft. Of Unauthorized Structures Including Popular Restaurants In Baner-Balewadi
Pune, September 18, 2025 – The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) carried out a major demolition drive on Wednesday, targeting unauthorized shops, hotels, sheds, and permanent constructions across Baner and Balewadi.
The action was taken at multiple locations including Elliot Society (near Peth Balewadi Gavthan School), Dasara Chowk, Balewadi High Street – Lenskart, Hippie @ Heart, Lakme Salon, Hidden Place Hangout, Habib’s, Hotel Independence), Balewadi Survey No. 17 Chowpatty, Moze College area, Ashtavinayak Chowk, and Cafe Buddies Express in Baner.
In total, around 54,375 sq. ft. of illegal, unlicensed structures were demolished. The operation was conducted by PMC’s Building Development Department, Zone 3, with the support of police personnel.
The drive was carried out under the guidance of PMC’s Superintendent Engineer and Executive Engineer (Zone 3), with the active participation of the Deputy Engineer, Junior Engineers, and other staff members.
The team deployed three JCB machines, one gas cutter, and ten encroachment workers to complete the demolition.
PMC officials confirmed that the action will continue against unauthorized constructions in the city to ensure compliance with building regulations.
