Pune, September 19, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for Pune district today.

According to updates from the Sachet App, light to moderate rainfall is expected over the next three hours in parts of Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, Beed, Jalna, Kolhapur, Mumbai, Mumbai Suburban, Nashik, Palghar, Pune, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Satara, and Thane districts.

The weather alert indicates the possibility of intermittent showers in these regions, urging residents to remain cautious during travel and outdoor activities.

Dam Discharge Increased in Pune District: Caution Urged Along Nira and Mutha Rivers

Authorities have announced increased water discharge from multiple dams in Pune district following heavy rainfall and rising inflows. Citizens along riverbanks have been advised to remain alert as discharge volumes may be adjusted depending on rainfall and inflow levels.

Bhatghar Dam (Bhor, Pune): At 6:45 am, with the reservoir at 100% capacity, discharge of 1,236 cusecs was initiated through the hydropower station into the river. Adjustments will be made based on rainfall in the catchment area. (Assistant Engineer, Nira Irrigation Subdivision)

Varasgaon Dam: At 7:00 am, a total discharge of 1,344 cusecs (744 cusecs via spillway and 600 cusecs via the power generation unit) was released into the river. Discharge levels may change with rainfall intensity. (Sub-Divisional Engineer, Mutha Canal Irrigation Subdivision, Pune)

Khadakwasla Dam: At 8:00 am, the discharge into the Mutha River was increased from 4,675 cusecs to 6,843 cusecs. Officials have cautioned that releases may be altered as required. – (Sub-Divisional Engineer, Mutha Canal Irrigation Subdivision, Swargate, Pune)

The Irrigation Department has appealed to residents near riverbanks to stay vigilant and cooperate with local administration for safety.
