Pune, September 19, 2025: Growing frustration over the nuisance caused by liquor shops has prompted residents of NIBM and Undri to demand urgent intervention from the authorities. Families living in Bramha Majestic, Gagan Ela, and several other societies recently met State Excise Department officials, highlighting how the presence of liquor outlets has led to recurring problems of law and order in the locality.

Last week, a delegation of residents submitted a memorandum to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, requesting immediate action. The memorandum pointed out that these shops, located in densely populated residential zones, have become hotspots for unruly gatherings, creating insecurity for women, children, and senior citizens.

Residents allege that groups of drunkards often loiter near footpaths and housing complexes late at night, disturbing the peace. They have also urged Pune Police to step up patrolling in the area to curb such activities and ensure public safety.

The NIBM Annexe Residents Forum raised the issue on social media, appealing directly to the police commissioner. Their post read: “Hooligans and drunkards are terrorizing the footpath opposite Raheja Vista Phase 2, NIBM Annexe, Mohammadwadi. Immediate crackdown needed to restore peace and safety!” The appeal has resonated with many residents who have expressed concern over rising nuisance and lack of enforcement.

Residents strongly believe that shutting down liquor shops in residential pockets, coupled with proactive policing, is essential to restore peace in the neighborhood. They have urged both the State Excise Department and Pune Police to act swiftly before the problem worsens further.
