Follow These Vastu Rules During Navratri for Goddess Durga’s Blessings
Simple remedies to invite prosperity, harmony, and divine grace during the nine-day festival
With Pitru Paksha ending on September 21, Sharadiya Navratri will begin on September 22, filling homes across the country with chants of Mata Rani ki Jai. Devotees believe that worshipping Goddess Durga with a pure heart during these nine days can remove obstacles and bring happiness. Vastu Shastra offers certain remedies that, if followed, are said to enhance the positive energy of Navratri worship and attract the blessings of the Mother Goddess.
Main Entrance and Cleanliness
The main entrance of a home is the gateway for energy flow. Keeping it clean and clutter-free is essential. Avoid placing dustbins, brooms, or broken items near the door. Make sure it opens and closes smoothly without creaking. Decorating the entrance with a Swastik symbol and mango leaf torans is considered highly auspicious, inviting wealth and harmony.
Puja Space and Directions
The northeast (Ishan Kon) is regarded as the most sacred and positive direction for setting up the puja area and installing the Kalash. Place the idol or picture of Goddess Durga facing east or north, on a raised platform such as a wooden chowki. Devotees should also face east or north while offering prayers, as this direction attracts success, courage, and inner strength.
Lighting the Eternal Flame
If keeping an Akhand Jyoti (eternal flame), it should be placed towards the southeast. Lighting it with ghee is said to attract peace, prosperity, and divine blessings.
Colours, Materials, and Symbols
Opt for auspicious colours like yellow, green, pink, or purple for the puja room. Red attire for the Goddess is considered especially favourable. Use copper or silver utensils for puja rituals. Placing a Tulsi plant in the northeast corner is believed to create a harmonious atmosphere, safeguard health, and invite prosperity. Sandalwood paste and fragrance add purity and positivity to the worship.
Kalash Rituals
On the first day of Navratri, keep a Kalash filled with clean water and flowers in your temple. On the final day, sprinkle the sanctified water throughout your home to promote harmony and financial stability. A Kalash can also be placed in the kitchen for additional benefits.
Kanya Pujan
On Ashtami, devotees perform Kanya Pujan, honouring young girls as embodiments of the Goddess. Vastu suggests that the girls should face east or north, while those worshipping should face northeast or north. This ritual is believed to bring divine grace, joy, and fulfilment.
Sound and Energy Cleansing
The sound of conch shells and bells is said to dispel negative energies and create a positive spiritual atmosphere. Sprinkling Gaumutra (cow urine) in the house or workspace is also believed to purify the environment.
By observing these Vastu remedies during Navratri, devotees can invite peace, prosperity, and divine protection into their homes.
