Pune: PMC Imposes ₹15 Lakh Penalty On Metro Line-3 Project For Debris Dumping In Balewadi
Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has slapped a fine of ₹15 lakh on the PMRDA’s Metro Line-3 (Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar) project for allegedly dumping construction debris on an open plot near Balewadi High Street. The action followed a site inspection by civic officials on September 18.
During the inspection, authorities observed trucks unloading large quantities of debris at the location. Assistant Municipal Commissioner of Aundh-Baner ward, Girish Dapkekar, reported that nearly 50 to 70 truckloads had been dumped there.
As per a circular issued by PMC on May 28, 2024, violators are charged ₹25,000 per truckload of illegally disposed debris. Based on an estimated 60 truck trips, the civic body calculated the fine at ₹15 lakh. The Metro project team has been instructed to pay the amount within two days and remove the dumped material immediately. Failure to comply could invite further action under the Pune Municipal Corporation Act, 1945.
Meanwhile, the Metro Line-3 authorities have denied responsibility, stating that their contractor followed proper debris disposal procedures. In an official statement, they claimed internal checks and video evidence suggest that vehicles unrelated to the Metro project were involved in the dumping.
