Pune, September 20, 2025 – In a major boost to law enforcement, the Pune Police Force is set to witness its largest recruitment drive in recent years, with 1,720 posts sanctioned by the Home Department. The decision comes after the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) geographical boundaries expanded with the inclusion of several villages, significantly increasing the city’s population and policing requirements.

With Pune now home to nearly 70 lakh people and only around 8,500 police personnel currently deployed, law and order, traffic management, and public safety have come under severe pressure. The rise in incidents of gang wars, firing, and violent crimes has further highlighted the urgent need for strengthening the police force.

Following persistent follow-ups by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and senior officials, the state government approved the creation of five new police stations at Manjari, Lohegaon, Yewalewadi, Narhe, and Laxminagar. These will be carved out from existing jurisdictions to ensure better law enforcement and accessibility.

Out of the 1,720 sanctioned posts, 830 will be newly created, while the remaining will be filled from existing vacancies. The proposal also includes the approval of two additional police divisions, with appointments for two Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), four Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), five Senior Police Inspectors, five Inspectors, along with officers and staff at various levels.
