Pune Court Sentences Man To 20 Years For Sexual Assault On Minor In Wanawadi
Pune, September 23, 2025: In a significant verdict, a Pune court has sentenced a 56-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl in Wanawadi.
The incident occurred between August 3, 2021, and October 29, 2021, at the accused’s residence in Radhika Empire, Jagtap Nagar, Wanwadi. The accused, Sanjay Ramesh Sharma, allegedly lured the minor victim, who had come to his home for classes, into his bedroom. He threatened to harm her sister and assaulted her, fully aware of her minor status and against her will.
Based on the complaint, Wanwadi Police registered FIR No. 393/2021 under Sections 376, 376(3) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 4(2), 5(l), 8, and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, 2012. The investigation was led by Police Sub-Inspector Sudha Chaudhary, currently posted in Greater Mumbai, who submitted the chargesheet against the accused in time.
Following strong evidence presented in court, the Additional Sessions Court and Special Court (POCSO), Shivajinagar, Pune, on September 23, 2025, sentenced Sanjay Ramesh Sharma to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹37,000. In case the fine is not paid, an additional nine months of rigorous imprisonment will be imposed.
The case was represented by Public Prosecutor Nitin Konghe and court pleader Dinesh Jadhav under the supervision of Police Deputy Commissioner, Division 5, Pune City, Dr. Rajkumar Shinde.
