School Holidays: Students to Enjoy Long Break Before Diwali, Check When Classes Resume
Festive season closures bring extended vacations across states; Maharashtra holiday list released
The festive season is bringing good news for students as schools across several states prepare for long holidays. According to the Maharashtra Board School Holiday List 2025, schools in the state will remain closed on Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Vijayadashami (October 2), followed by Diwali Amavasya and Lakshmi Pujan (October 21), and Diwali (October 22).
These official holidays, aligned with national observances and major festivals, provide students and teachers with a much-awaited break. The list helps families plan trips, festive gatherings, and vacations while also allowing schools to balance their academic schedules.
Across India, holiday schedules vary. Schools in Andhra Pradesh will reopen on October 3, in Karnataka on October 7, in Telangana on October 6, in Chhattisgarh on October 27, and in Jharkhand on October 6. Private schools in Bihar will resume between October 3 and 6.

Karnataka students will enjoy the longest festive break — 17 days from September 20 to October 6. Telangana follows with 13 days off between September 21 and October 3, while Rajasthan schools will remain closed for 12 days from October 13 to 24. In Bihar and Jharkhand, private schools will shut down for 6–9 days, between September 27 and October 5.
With such variations across states, parents and students are advised to stay updated through direct communication with schools or by checking state education department notifications to avoid confusion.
