Maharashtra Weather Update: 33 Districts on Yellow Alert as Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Expected On September 26
Maharashtra, September 25, 2025: The Maharashtra State Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for 33 districts across the state, warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms on September 26, 2025. Recent days have seen intense rainfall in several regions, causing significant damage to crops and localized flooding.
Konkan & Mumbai Region:
Districts including Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, and Ratnagiri are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and lightning. Sindhudurg district may witness extremely heavy rainfall. All these areas have been placed under a yellow alert.
Western Maharashtra:
Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, and Solapur districts are expected to see heavy winds with thunder and lightning. The ghats may experience extremely heavy rainfall. All districts in western Maharashtra are under a yellow alert.
Marathwada Region:
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, and Dharashiv districts are forecasted to have thunderstorms with strong winds and lightning, with some areas receiving heavy to very heavy rainfall. Yellow alerts have been issued for all districts in Marathwada.
North Maharashtra:
Dhule, Nandurbar, and Jalgaon districts may see light to moderate rainfall, while Nashik, Nashik Ghats, and Ahilyanagar are likely to experience thunderstorms with strong winds and lightning. The IMD has issued yellow alerts for these districts as well.
Vidarbha Region:
Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, and Wardha districts are expected to see thunderstorms with heavy winds and lightning, while Buldhana, Chandrapur, Washim, and Yavatmal may experience extremely heavy rainfall. All districts in Vidarbha have been placed under yellow alert.
Safety Advisory:
Due to the risk of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, the IMD has urged citizens to remain vigilant. Farmers are advised to protect crops, while the general public should avoid unnecessary travel and take precautions against waterlogging and local flooding.
