Pune: PMC To Allocate 20 Plots For Metro Station Commuter Parking, Including Yerwada And Ramwadi
Pune, September 27, 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to hand over 20 plots for commuter and staff parking near Metro stations, according to Shri Dinkar Gojare, Chief Engineer of the PMC Project Department. This move comes after persistent follow-ups with the department and aims to address chronic parking shortages near key stations.
Notably, four of these plots will be allocated near the Yerwada and Ramwadi Metro stations, fulfilling a key directive from PIL No. 74 of 2024 filed by three petitioners. The Public Interest Litigation highlighted issues such as illegal parking on footpaths and unauthorized waiting areas for autos and cabs near Metro stations, which have persisted due to long delays in formal parking allocations.
A High Court order dated July 3, 2024, assigned the Divisional Commissioner responsibility to find appropriate solutions within two months; however, no significant progress was reported. Consequently, a site visit was conducted on December 5, 2024, by officials from the Metro project, PMC, and Traffic Police to assess land availability for parking within 50–100 meters of the Yerwada and Ramwadi stations.

The site visit report emphasized surveying open lands or reservations for acquisition or lease to develop official Metro commuter parking bays. The initiative aims to prevent private operators from exploiting these areas and provide much-needed relief to the congestion along Nagar Road and surrounding areas.
Petitioner Qaneez Sukhrani expressed optimism that the parking allocation would significantly improve commuter convenience and reduce traffic snarls near the stations.
