Maharashtra Weather Update: Heavy Rain Batters State, Marathwada Faces Rising Flood Threat, Red Alert in Solapur and Raigad
Maharashtra, September 28, 2025: Torrential rains have once again lashed most districts of Maharashtra, with the Marathwada region facing an intensified crisis. Already battered by floods, the area is now under heightened risk as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall warnings for the next two days, September 28 and 29.
According to the IMD bulletin released at 5:30 am today, a low-pressure system has formed over western Vidarbha and is moving westward. This weather system is likely to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall across Marathwada, Vidarbha, and parts of central Maharashtra before gradually weakening. Raigad district has been placed under a red alert, while Pune has witnessed renewed showers since early morning. Heavy inflows into reservoirs have forced authorities to release over 10,000 cusecs of water from Khadakwasla Dam into the Mutha River.
Marathwada Rainfall Surplus
Marathwada has already recorded rainfall far above its seasonal average. Data shows Aurangabad received 708.1 mm against a normal of 581.7 mm (120%), Jalna 771.8 mm against 630.1 mm (128%), Beed over 835 mm against 566 mm (147%), Latur 894 mm against 706 mm (126%), Dharashiv 924.6 mm against 603 mm (153%), Nanded 1085 mm against 814 mm (133%), Parbhani 874 mm against 661 mm (115%), and Hingoli 1062.8 mm against 795 mm (134%).
Flood-Like Situation in Solapur
In Solapur, incessant downpours have paralyzed life. The Akkalkot-Waghdari road has been shut after water overflowed a bridge near Shirsi village. The district is under a red alert today, with Madha taluka witnessing severe damage. Many families, already affected by earlier floods, have been forced to abandon their homes once again. In Undargaon, residents reported losing food supplies and shifting to safer locations.
Nashik Rainfall Impact
Nashik has also reported continuous rainfall since last night, affecting Trimbakeshwar, where temple visitors faced difficulties due to waterlogged streets. With rainfall continuing in the Gangapur Dam catchment, water discharge is expected to rise. In Yeola taluka, heavy rain flooded markets and damaged crops. A wall collapse at a poultry farm in Balhegaon killed over 800 chickens, causing major losses to farmers.
IMD Advisory
The IMD has warned that the next 48 hours remain critical, urging residents of flood-prone and low-lying areas in Marathwada, Solapur, Raigad, and Nashik to stay alert. Local authorities are on high alert, monitoring dam inflows and ensuring precautionary evacuations where necessary.
