Maharashtra continues to grapple with heavy rainfall as district administrations announce precautionary school holidays in multiple regions.

Authorities in Nanded and Latur have declared a holiday for all educational institutions today following an Orange alert for heavy rains. The order, issued by the respective district collectors, applies to government and private schools, Zilla Parishad schools, Anganwadis, aided and unaided institutions, coaching centres, and vocational training centres.

According to the Mumbai Regional Meteorological Centre, both districts are expected to witness torrential downpours, with major rivers already flowing above warning levels. Officials said the step was necessary to avoid risks to children and prevent any untoward incidents. Parents and students have been advised to remain in touch with school authorities for updates on reopening.

Meanwhile, schools and colleges in Mumbai, Palghar, and other districts also remain shut on Monday, September 29. The government has clarified that reopening decisions will depend on weather conditions. Rising river water levels in Thane and Palghar have heightened concerns, with authorities preparing to shift residents from low-lying and vulnerable areas.

In addition, landslides have been reported in parts of Ratnagiri and Raigad, prompting the deployment of relief and rescue teams. Officials are closely monitoring the situation to ensure timely evacuation and assistance.

The ongoing Navratri celebrations in Nashik have also been disrupted, as swollen rivers and overcrowded areas pose safety risks. The administration has appealed to devotees to avoid gathering near water bodies and strictly follow safety instructions.
