Tragedy strikes as suspected short circuit claims lives of two brothers in their home

In a heartbreaking incident, eight-year-old television actor Veer Sharma, known for his role as Pushkal in Sony SAB’s Shrimad Ramayan, and his elder brother Shaurya (16), died in a fire that broke out at their home in Kota, Rajasthan, early Sunday morning.

According to police, the blaze erupted around 2 am in the fourth-floor flat of Deepshree building under Anantpura police station limits. The boys’ father, Jitendra Sharma, a coaching centre teacher, was away at a bhajan programme, while their mother, actor Rita Sharma, was in Mumbai. Investigators suspect a short circuit triggered the fire, which was largely confined to the drawing room.

Suffocation, Not Burns

SP Tejeshwani Goutam said the children are believed to have died due to smoke inhalation and suffocation rather than burn injuries. Neighbours, noticing the smoke, broke into the flat and pulled the unconscious boys out, rushing them to hospital where doctors declared them dead. They also used fire extinguishers installed in the building to control the flames; no fire tenders were called to the scene.

Aftermath and Family’s Decision

The drawing room and furniture were gutted in the fire. Following Rita Sharma’s arrival from Mumbai, the children’s bodies were handed over to the family. In an act of compassion, the family donated the boys’ eyes to an eye bank.
