Maharashtra GST Department Arrests Firm Owner For Fraudulent Input Tax Credit Of ₹10.53 Crore
Mumbai, September 30, 2025: The Maharashtra Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department has arrested Suresh Shivaji Kataria, 56, owner of M/s Neelkanth Traders, in a special investigation drive against tax-evading firms. The announcement was made by Janardan Atpadkar, State Tax Commissioner (Public Relations), Mumbai.
The investigation revealed that M/s Neelkanth Traders was involved in fake invoices. During the probe, it was found that Kataria claimed a fraudulent input tax credit of ₹10.53 crore from non-existent taxpayers, without any actual goods transactions.
The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Esplanade, Mumbai, has remanded Suresh Shivaji Kataria to judicial custody until October 10, 2025. The action was carried out by Assistant Commissioners Santosh R. Khedkar and Deepti N. Pilare, along with State Tax Inspectors and Assistant Tax Officers.
This operation was conducted under the guidance of State Tax Commissioner Yasmin A. Molkar, Investigation-C Department, Mumbai.
This is the 30th arrest in the fiscal year 2025-26. The Maharashtra GST Department has once again issued a stern warning to individuals and entities involved in tax fraud, fake invoicing, and claiming bogus input tax credits without any actual supply of goods or services.
