Sometimes, one small video can start a big conversation, and that’s exactly what happened after a lawyer posted about a new app called Knot.dating. Her short Instagram video quickly went viral, drawing attention to what she called an “AI matrimonial app for the top 1% of men in India.”

The lawyer introduced Knot.dating as a platform that’s different from regular dating apps like Tinder or Shaadi.com. She explained that the app was designed for a very specific kind of user, men who earn at least ₹50 lakh a year. That’s not a small number, and it instantly got people talking.

In her video, the lawyer said, “Forget Tinder, forget Shaadi.com—this new AI matrimonial app is only for the top 1% of men in India.” She explained that while men must meet the income condition to join, women have no entry conditions at all.

Her reaction to this rule was sharp and clear. She said the idea made it look like a place where women could simply “shop for rich husbands,” calling it “gold digger central.” Many viewers agreed, saying it seemed unfair and strange to create a matchmaking app with such uneven rules between men and women.

Who Created the App?

The lawyer also mentioned that the app was created by two men, which made her point even stronger. “Two men came up with the idea to create this app for high-value men to find women. So, the theory that men who cry ‘gold diggers’ have no gold just got so real,” she said.

Her comments added fuel to the online discussion. Soon, the app’s official account noticed the buzz and responded in the comments section, writing in Hindi, “Humein kyun toda?” (which means “Why did you break us?”), trying to join the conversation in a lighthearted way.

Founders Explain the ₹50 Lakh Rule

Knot.dating was founded by Jasveer Singh and Abhishek Asthana, both well-known entrepreneurs. Singh, who is the co-founder and CEO, said the app is meant for people who are serious about marriage, not casual dating.

He explained that the ₹50 lakh condition was not just about money but about mindset. “We needed a hard filter that creates clarity, not chaos,” he said. According to him, this rule helps attract ambitious individuals, people who know what they want and where they are headed in life.

What the App Is Really About

On their website, Knot.dating describes itself as India’s first AI-powered conversational matchmaking app. Unlike traditional matrimonial sites that rely on checkboxes and filters, this one uses artificial intelligence to talk to users, understand their personality, and help them find a genuine match.

The founders say it’s not just another dating platform, it’s invite-only, private, and completely verified. Their goal is to create a safe space for working professionals who want meaningful relationships and are ready to take charge of their journey before involving their families.

Since the lawyer’s video went viral, the debate hasn’t stopped. Some people believe the app is reinforcing stereotypes and setting unfair standards. Others argue that it’s simply targeting a niche audience, those who know what they want.
