Pune: PMRDA Issues Strict Directives On Heavy Vehicles: Construction Firms Told To Ensure Drivers Operate Only During Permitted Hours
Pune/Pimpri, October 14, 2025: To prevent road accidents in and around Hinjawadi and nearby areas, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has directed that heavy vehicles should enter the city only during the time slots designated by the police.
In a key decision taken during a meeting held at PMRDA’s Akurdi office on Monday, it was also mandated that construction developers must ensure their drivers are not under the influence of any intoxicant and possess valid licenses. Developers have been asked to maintain an updated record of vehicle and driver details at each project site and ensure compliance with all traffic regulations.
Currently, several residential projects are underway in the Hinjawadi–Maan–Mahalunge belt, requiring regular transport of cement, steel, and other construction materials through heavy vehicles. However, the movement of these vehicles has led to rising safety concerns and an increase in accidents involving the general public.
To curb such incidents, PMRDA officials, under the direction of Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase, held a meeting chaired by Director of Development Permission and Planning Avinash Patil. The session was attended by Police Inspector Maheshkumar Saratape, PMRDA officials, and representatives from various construction firms operating in the region.
It was emphasized that no heavy vehicles should ply during morning and evening rush hours in the IT hub areas, as traffic congestion caused by these vehicles disrupts regular commuters.
Construction Work to Be Stopped if Rules Are Violated
The directive follows a tragic accident last Friday in Hinjawadi, where a woman motorcyclist lost her life after being run over by a concrete mixer truck. The police have registered a case against the driver, and based on this incident, PMRDA has decided to suspend the construction permission of the project site associated with the vehicle involved.
