Bihar: In Bihar, Diwali and Chhath Puja holidays have been combined, with schools closed from October 20 to October 28, granting students nine days of vacation.

Maharashtra: Schools will remain closed from October 18 to October 22, with a few institutions also declaring holidays for Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj, extending the total break to seven to eight days. Families across the state are planning trips to their hometowns and tourist destinations.

Andhra Pradesh & Telangana: With October 18 and 19 being a weekend and Diwali on October 20, students here will get an extended holiday period of four to five days, as some schools have also announced a holiday on October 21.

Delhi: In the national capital, some celebrate Diwali on October 20 and others on October 21, resulting in staggered holidays. Including the weekend and Govardhan Puja or Bhai Dooj, students will get a three to five-day break.

Bank Holidays During Diwali 2025

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the list of holidays for banks. Branches in several states will remain closed on October 21, 22, and 23 for Diwali, Govardhan Puja, and Bhai Dooj. Citizens are advised to complete all financial transactions in advance to avoid inconvenience during the festive period.
