Pune, November 4, 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has suspended Akash Dhenge, Branch Engineer of the Sewerage and Maintenance Repair Department, for alleged lapses in sewage and drainage upkeep in Shewalewadi and Manjari, areas falling under the Hadapsar–Mundhwa Ward Office.

The action follows an internal inquiry that revealed serious irregularities in maintenance and repair work. Additional Commissioner Pavneet Kaur has ordered a departmental probe and sought a comprehensive report on the deficiencies observed.

Earlier, during the Diwali inspectionPMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram had identified multiple civic issues in these areas, including damaged drainage chambers, clogged roadside ducts, and poor sewage management — all posing safety hazards to residents.

After reviewing the inspection findings, the civic body issued a show-cause notice to Dhenge. However, his response was deemed unsatisfactory, resulting in his suspension.

This move highlights the PMC’s ongoing efforts to enforce stricter accountability among its engineering staff. Notably, two other engineers were recently suspended over similar negligence cases.

The civic administration has made it clear that it will continue to take firm action against officials found responsible for lapses in public infrastructure maintenance.
