Mumbai: One Killed, Three Injured Amid Flash Strike Chaos at CSMT
Mumbai: Three person died and many others were injured after being hit by a train near Sandhurst Road station on Thursday evening, officials said. The incident occurred shortly after a flash strike by railway employees disrupted services at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) during peak hours.
According to sources, a group of people was walking along the tracks when a train approached. They were unable to move out of the way in time and were struck by the oncoming train. Train services on the route were affected following the mishap.
The incident coincided with a sudden protest by Central Railway employees at CSMT. The flash strike began around 6 pm, during one of the busiest periods for Mumbai’s local trains, leading to temporary suspension of services and heavy commuter rush at major stations such as Thane and CSMT.
Due to overcrowding, some air-conditioned local trains were seen running with doors open late in the evening. The agitation was reportedly held to protest against an FIR filed by the Government Railway Police (GRP) against two railway engineers in connection with the June 9 Mumbra train accident. In that tragedy, four commuters had died and nine others were injured after falling off two overcrowded local trains between Diva and Mumbra stations.
Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Dr. Swapnil Nila, said the situation was quickly brought under control, and services resumed from CSMT at around 6.45 pm.
Further investigation into Thursday’s accident near Sandhurst Road is underway.
