Pune: MSRDC Seeks Inclusion of 74 More Villages for Pune Ring Road Planning
Pune, November 7, 2025 — As the Pune Ring Road project gains momentum, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has requested the inclusion of 74 additional villages from five talukas into its planning jurisdiction, raising concerns among urban planners and civic experts.
In October 2024, the Urban Development Department had approved MSRDC as the planning authority for 117 villages across Haveli, Bhor, Purandar, Mulshi, and Velhe (Raigad) talukas. Now, as work on these villages progresses, MSRDC has proposed to expand its authority to cover another 74 villages to ensure integrated planning for the entire ring road corridor, according to a report in Hindustan Times.
MSRDC Managing Director Anil Kumar Gaikwad, in a letter dated September 18, 2025, argued that these additional villages are crucial for coordinated development, particularly around the Purandar International Airport and the Sonori ring road junction. If approved, MSRDC’s special planning area would expand from 668 square kilometers to 1,062 square kilometers.
Villages proposed for inclusion include Konadnapur, Sangarun, Arvi, Gaudara, Kalyan, Tanajinagar, Moradarwadi, and several others across the five talukas. Local gram panchayats have also expressed interest in having their villages included in the project.
However, urban activists and experts have raised objections.
The debate highlights ongoing concerns about overlapping jurisdictions and the need for coordinated urban planning around Pune’s rapidly developing ring road corridor.
