Pune Police Seize Gutkha Worth ₹20.7 Lakh, Arrest Man In Yerawada
Pune, 26 November 2025: The Anti-Narcotics Squad of Pune Crime Branch Unit 2 seized gutkha and other tobacco-based products worth ₹20.7 lakh during a raid in Yerawada. One person has been arrested in connection with the seizure.
The operation, led by Police Inspector Sudarshan Gaikwad and Assistant Police Inspector Nitin Kumar Naik, was carried out at Ved Provision Stores, Survey No. 14, behind a warehouse near Sanjay Bhosale’s office in Naik Nagar, Yerawada.
The accused, Jamnaram alias Ganesh Balram Jat (25), a resident of Naik Nagar, was found in possession of a large stock of banned tobacco products. Police have registered a case against him under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC 123, 223, 274, 275), the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA 7(2), 20(2)), and the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (Section 26(2)(i)(iv)).
Senior officials praised the swift action of the Anti-Narcotics Squad, emphasizing Pune Police’s commitment to curbing illegal tobacco trade and protecting public health.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to trace the supply chain of these banned products.
