Pune: Kunal Icon Road Work Accelerates In Pimple Saudagar; Major Utility Upgrades Underway
Pune, December 3, 2025: An on-site review of the ongoing road development work on Kunal Icon Road was conducted by municipal officials and local representatives this week. The project, part of broader urban infrastructure improvements in the area, is currently focused on concrete road construction aimed at enhancing safety, durability, and long-term utility service reliability.
The inspection was attended by Sunil Pawar, Executive Engineer (Urban Transport), and Shatrughna Kate, former Corporator of the area. The team assessed the progress, which officials report is approximately 60% complete, and reviewed measures to manage traffic and minimize disruption to residents during the construction phase.
The road development involves significant underground utility work, including the installation and upgrading of water pipelines, drainage systems, electricity cables, and gas lines. Due to the dense residential layout of Pimple Saudagar, providing full alternative routes has been a challenge.
Sunil Pawar, Executive Engineer, explained the strategic approach “Approximately 60% of the work on Kunal Icon Road is finished. This is a complex project due to the dense network of existing utilities beneath the surface. We have coordinated with residents to utilize rear service lanes and society access roads for commuting where feasible. Our team has successfully upgraded nearly 700 meters in the past year, and the current phase is planned methodically to ensure all utilities are integrated efficiently, preventing the need for future road digging.”
Shatrughna Kate, former Corporator, emphasized the focus on quality and future readiness, “The work, especially near key points like Roseland Gate, is advancing well. We anticipate full completion within the next two months. Importantly, we are not just laying a new surface, we are replacing aged and vulnerable utility lines with new, robust systems. This proactive upgrade is designed to deliver a reliable road infrastructure that will serve residents for years to come, without repeated disruptions.”
“The current traffic delays, particularly during peak hours, are undeniably inconvenient. However, we have been assured that this is a short-term trade-off for a long-term solution. If the result is a well-constructed, pothole-free road that doesn’t require annual repairs, then this period of adjustment is a worthwhile investment for our community’s future.” Said Anjali Deshmukh, a resident from Kunal Icon society
Rohan Jadhav, a local businessman, added “My shop’s footfall has been affected due to reduced accessibility and ongoing construction activity. While this poses a temporary challenge for local commerce, we are hopeful the authorities will adhere to the promised timeline. A timely completion and a high-quality final outcome will ultimately benefit residents and businesses alike by improving connectivity and the overall environment of our neighborhood.”
