Pune, December 3,  2025 — The National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), Pune Chapter, has reaffirmed its commitment to guest safety by strongly urging patrons to avoid drinking and driving and instead use cabs, public transport, or designated drivers for safe travels.

NRAI Pune stated that its member restaurants and hotels deeply care about their guests’ well-being and want them to enjoy responsibly with friends and family. To prevent patrons from driving under

the influence, member establishments have already implemented several proactive measures, including encouraging customers to hire a cab, use a designated driver, or request valet staff to drive them home if needed.

As an additional safety measure, restaurants have designated valet assistants specifically to help guests book cabs. Clear signage and standees advising patrons “Do Not Drink and Drive — Take a Cab” have been placed prominently outside member outlets.

Referring to the recent tragic incident at Toit Pune, where a valet assistant lost his life, the association said the tragedy occurred after an inebriated individual, who had already arrived intoxicated, rammed his vehicle into the valet desk.

“After he was escorted out of their premises, the management at Toit Pune repeatedly requested the individual—who is now in police custody—to take a cab and even offered to drive him home, as he was clearly unfit to drive. Unfortunately, he refused to listen, which resulted in the tragic loss of our colleague, Satendra Mandal” NRAI Pune said.

The association added that Toit Pune is fully cooperating with the police in the investigation and complying with all legal requirements.

NRAI Pune emphasized that its commitment to the safety of guests and staff remains paramount. “We once again appeal to all patrons: Please do not drink and drive. Choose a cab or a designated  driver. Your safety and the safety of others is our highest priority.”
