Pune: Balewadi Residents Seek District Collector’s Intervention Over Nuisance From Liquor Store Near Dasara Chowk
Pune, December 9, 2025: Residents of Balewadi have raised serious concerns over the persistent nuisance caused by a liquor shop located near Dasara Chowk. The Balewadi Welfare Federation and a local school have jointly submitted a memorandum to District Collector Jitendra Dudi, urging immediate action.
According to residents, the liquor store is creating constant inconvenience for people living in the area, especially senior citizens, women, and school students. The locality is predominantly residential, with several housing societies nearby. Educational institutions such as CM International School, SKP Educational Campus, Ravindranath Tagore School, Bharati Vidyapeeth, and a municipal school are all in close proximity, with nearly 7,000–8,000 students commuting daily.
Locals allege that individuals consume alcohol on the roadside, urinate in the open, litter the area with bottles, and obstruct traffic. Though the police have taken action on multiple occasions, residents say the issue persists and requires a permanent solution.
Earlier, the Federation and CM International School had submitted a complaint to the Superintendent of the State Excise Department. The matter has now been escalated to the District Collector, who has assured them that he will look into the issue.
The memorandum was submitted by Ramesh Rokde, Moreshwar Balwadkar, Vaibhav Aadhav, Ashish Kotamkar, Adv. Rupali Raikar, and Sunil Galankar on behalf of the Federation.
