Child suffers serious head injuries; police launch search for absconding accused

A disturbing case of domestic violence has surfaced from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, where a man allegedly assaulted his wife and their four-year-old son with a frying pan after dinner was not prepared on time. The incident, which occurred in the Gorakhnath police station area, has sparked shock and outrage due to the brutality involved and the age of the injured child.

According to the police complaint, the victim, Radhika Sahni, a resident of Shastrinagar Teliyakuan, stated that her husband, Lalchand Sahni, works as a driver in Lucknow and frequently turns violent after consuming alcohol. On the night of December 20, he returned home around 9 pm and demanded rotis immediately. Radhika told the police that she was busy with household work and asked for some time before preparing the meal.

The situation escalated rapidly. She alleged that her husband began hurling abuses and picked up a frying pan from the kitchen. Despite her attempts to escape and take shelter in another room, he allegedly struck her repeatedly on the face and head, causing serious injuries, including a wound under her eye. Even after she fell to the ground, the assault continued.

The violence took an even more horrifying turn when their four-year-old son entered the room crying after hearing the commotion. Radhika stated that Lalchand then attacked the child with the same frying pan, hitting him on the head and leaving him bleeding profusely. Neighbours rushed in after hearing her screams and helped take the injured child to the district hospital, where he is undergoing treatment for serious head injuries.

After the assault, the accused allegedly threatened Radhika with dire consequences if she approached the police and then fled the scene. She later gathered the courage to file a complaint at the Gorakhnath police station on December 21.

Confirming the incident, SP City Abhinav Tyagi said an FIR has been registered based on the woman’s complaint. “The woman has undergone a medical examination. The child is receiving treatment. A search operation is underway to trace the accused, who is currently absconding,” he said.

The case has once again highlighted the grave issue of domestic violence and the extreme vulnerability of women and children within abusive households.
