Pune Traffic Police Launch Student Traffic Branches In Colleges To Promote Road Safety Awareness
Pune, January 10, 2026: As part of Road Safety Week 2026, the Pune City Traffic Police have initiated the formation of Student Traffic Branches in colleges across the city to promote awareness of traffic rules among students and help reduce road accidents.
Acting on the directives of the Pune Police Commissioner, the initiative aims to instil responsible traffic behaviour among school and college students. The first Student Traffic Branch was inaugurated on January 5, 2026, at Jadhavar Group of Institutes, Ambegaon (Pune).
A total of 25 students, including 11 female and 14 male students, were enrolled as members of the newly formed branch. These students received formal training on traffic rules from the Traffic Police Department and were provided with RSP badges, light batons, line yards and caps.
Students were also instructed to report traffic violations within the college premises through the PPT mobile application, enabling swift action against rule violators.
The programme was attended by senior police officials, including the Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region), Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic), traffic police officers, college principal Dr Sudhakar Jadhavar, faculty members and students. Around 500 to 600 people were present at the event.
The Pune Traffic Police stated that similar Student Traffic Branches will be established in more educational institutions to build a culture of road safety and discipline among young citizens.
