Pune Mula–Mutha Riverfront Project: 1.5 km Sangamwadi Stretch Completed, Set To Open For Citizens Soon
Pune, January 27, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) ambitious Mula–Mutha Riverfront Development Project is progressing steadily, with nearly 90 per cent of the first phase now complete. The project aims to rejuvenate the riverbanks along the 44-kilometre stretch of the Mula–Mutha River flowing through the city, enhancing both environmental quality and public spaces.
In the first phase, riverfront development work has been undertaken along a 3.7-kilometre stretch between Sangamwadi and Bund Garden. Of this, the 1.5-kilometre stretch at Sangamwadi has been fully completed. On Republic Day, January 26, 2026, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishor Ram, along with Additional Commissioners Prithviraj B.P. (Estate), Pavneet Kaur (General), Omprakash Divte (Special), and City Engineer Prashant Waghmare, inspected the completed work and carried out a tree plantation drive at the site.
As part of the project, the riverfront is being developed with theme parks, walking paths, cycling tracks, and a range of civic amenities aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and recreational activities for citizens. The completed 1.5-kilometre walking and cycling track will be officially opened to the public on February 15, 2026, marking the Pune Municipal Corporation’s foundation day. Once inaugurated, the facility will be accessible to citizens daily during morning hours from 6 am to 9 am and in the evening from 5 pm to 8 pm.
Looking ahead, PMC has planned to complete approximately 5 kilometres of riverfront development between Sangamwadi and Kalyani Nagar by the end of March 2026. Following this, a formal inauguration is expected to be held in the presence of public representatives and ministers.
The Mula–Mutha Riverfront Project is envisioned as a transformative urban initiative that balances ecological restoration with modern public infrastructure, offering Pune residents improved access to green spaces along the riverbanks.
