Pune, February 13, 2026: In a major action against illegal wildlife trade, the Pune Forest Department seized nearly 640 kilograms of suspected wild boar meat from the parcel section of Pune Railway Station. One person has been arrested in connection with the case.

The raid was conducted on February 12 after officials received specific information about the unlawful transport of wildlife meat. A team led by Range Forest Officers Rishikesh Chavan and Suresh Varak carried out a search at the station’s parcel office and detained a consignment that appeared suspicious.

The meat was found packed in seven large cartons and was reportedly being transported from Nanded to Madgaon in Goa aboard the Panvel Express. Initial inspection indicates that the meat is from wild boar (locally known as Ran Dukkar), which is listed under Schedule II of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Hunting, possession, or trade of protected wildlife species is a punishable offence under the Act.

The seized meat has been confiscated in accordance with legal procedures.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of senior forest officials from the Pune division. Forest guards and local police personnel assisted in the raid.

The Forest Department has urged citizens to share any information related to wildlife poaching or illegal trade through the toll-free helpline 1926.
