Aditya Dhar’s 2019 war drama returns to the spotlight, climbing OTT charts with strong ratings and renewed audience interest

Even as filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s latest project creates buzz, his 7-year-old war film Uri: The Surgical Strike has made a strong comeback on OTT platforms, trending among the top titles and drawing fresh attention from viewers.

Released in 2019, the film had created a massive impact during its theatrical run, and now it is once again finding popularity in the digital space. Currently streaming on ZEE5, the film is reportedly trending in the top charts, with audiences revisiting its intense storytelling and patriotic theme.

At the centre of the film is a gripping narrative based on real events. It follows Major Vihaan Singh Shergill, played by Vicky Kaushal, who leads a team of Indian Army Special Forces in a covert mission. The story is inspired by the Indian Army’s response to the 2016 Uri terror attack, where 19 soldiers lost their lives.

The film stands out for its high-octane action sequences, tactical military depiction, and emotional depth. Directed by Aditya Dhar, it marked his directorial debut and went on to become one of the most talked-about war films in recent years.

Apart from Vicky Kaushal, the film features a strong supporting cast including Yami Gautam, Paresh Rawal, Kirti Kulhari, and Mohit Raina. Their performances contributed to the film’s emotional and dramatic weight.

The renewed popularity of the film highlights how certain stories continue to resonate with audiences even years after release. Its strong IMDb rating and repeat viewership reflect its lasting appeal, especially among viewers interested in real-life military operations and patriotic cinema.

With its return to the trending list, Uri: The Surgical Strike once again proves its place as a modern war classic that continues to connect with audiences across platforms.
