Pune Crime: 60-Year-Old Woman Arrested For Killing 80-Year-Old Mother-In-Law With Kitchen Knife After Domestic Dispute
An elderly woman was allegedly stabbed to death inside her Ambegaon Budruk flat in Pune after a heated domestic argument with her daughter-in-law, police said.
A shocking family dispute turned fatal in Pune’s Ambegaon Budruk area after a 60-year-old woman allegedly murdered her 80-year-old mother-in-law inside their home on Tuesday afternoon.
According to police, the incident took place between 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm at the family’s flat in Samruddhi Residency near Katraj-Dehu Road Bypass. Officials said only the two women were present inside the house at the time of the attack, while other family members were away.
Police said tensions had reportedly been brewing within the family for several years over household-related disputes. On Tuesday afternoon, another argument allegedly broke out between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, which escalated violently.
Investigators said the accused allegedly entered the elderly woman’s bedroom carrying a kitchen knife and attacked her multiple times on the hands, chest and neck.
Police officials stated that the victim screamed for help during the assault, but nobody nearby could hear her. The attack allegedly ended with the accused slitting the elderly woman’s throat.
The victim’s son later returned home and was shocked to find his mother lying motionless while his wife was allegedly still holding the knife.
Police said the accused herself later informed the control room about the murder. A team from Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Station rushed to the spot, detained the woman and recovered the kitchen knife believed to have been used in the crime.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
The incident has triggered concern among residents in the area, with locals describing the murder as deeply disturbing given that it took place within a middle-class family home over a domestic conflict.
