Over 700 Employees Left Jobless as Pune IT Firm Allegedly Shuts Down Overnight in Hinjawadi
Pune, May 30: More than 700 employees, including software engineers, freshers, and interns, have reportedly been left jobless after an IT company operating from Pune’s Hinjawadi IT Park allegedly shut down its operations overnight without prior notice.
The company, identified by employees as Think Technology India, was functioning from the Gera’s Imperium Rise building in Hinjawadi Phase-II. According to affected staff members, the firm had aggressively recruited fresh graduates and IT professionals throughout 2025 but began facing financial difficulties earlier this year.
Employees claim salary payments started becoming irregular from February 2026. While salaries were typically credited between the 7th and 8th of every month, payments were allegedly delayed without clear communication. When workers sought explanations, the management reportedly attributed the delays to an internal audit and assured employees that pending salaries would be released soon.
However, concerns escalated when employees discovered that the company’s office had suddenly been closed. The abrupt shutdown, coupled with unpaid salaries, left hundreds of workers struggling to manage rent, EMIs, and household expenses.
Several employees also alleged that salary cheques issued by the company bounced after being deposited, worsening their financial situation. Workers claim the non-payment of salaries has caused severe economic hardship for many affected families.
Adding to the controversy, employees have accused the company of collecting a refundable security deposit of ₹15,000 for laptops issued to staff members. With the firm’s operations now reportedly halted, workers are concerned about recovering their deposits.
The matter has been taken up by the Forum for IT Employees (FITE), which said multiple affected employees approached the organisation seeking assistance. FITE representatives have helped workers file police complaints and have demanded strict action against those responsible.
The organisation has also raised concerns over alleged violations of employment practices and called for stronger safeguards to protect IT professionals from similar incidents in the future.
The issue has reportedly been brought to the attention of the Labour Ministry, with demands for intervention and enhanced protection for employees in the IT sector.
Police complaints have been lodged, and an investigation is currently underway. As of now, the management of Think Technology India has not issued any public statement responding to the allegations made by employees.
