Pune: 350 Kg Of Khoya Dumped Near Farmland In Shirur Amid Crackdown On Food Adulteration
Shirur/Pune, June 4, 2026
In a startling incident that has created a buzz in Shirur taluka, nearly 350 kilograms of khoya (mawa) was found dumped beside a farm at Shirsgaon Kata on Wednesday (June 3), allegedly due to fear of action by authorities amid the ongoing statewide campaign against food adulteration.
According to reports, 14 bags of khoya were abandoned along the canal road near the farm of local farmer Vijay Waman Kate, situated off National Highway 548-D at Shirsgaon Kata. Each bag weighed approximately 25 kilograms, taking the total quantity to an estimated 300–350 kilograms.
The incident came to light on Wednesday morning when a strong foul smell spread across the area. Vijay Kate visited the spot to investigate and discovered a large number of bags filled with khoya lying by the roadside. News of the discovery quickly spread, drawing a crowd of curious residents to the location.
The dumping comes at a time when the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), under the leadership of Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, is conducting an aggressive statewide drive against adulterated food products. Frequent raids, sample testing, and seizure operations have reportedly created panic among those involved in food adulteration.
Locals suspect that the khoya may have been hastily discarded to avoid regulatory action. However, questions remain regarding the ownership of the stock, whether it was adulterated, and where it originated from.
Residents have demanded a thorough investigation by the concerned authorities to identify those responsible and determine the quality and source of the dumped khoya. The incident has once again raised concerns about food safety and adulteration in Shirur taluka.
