Pune: Kale Padal Police Seize Two Country-Made Pistols, Four Magazines And Live Cartridges; Externed Accused HeldĀ
Pune, June 5, 2026: In a major crackdown on illegal firearms, the Kale Padal Police of Pune City seized two country-made pistols, four magazines and four live cartridges from three accused, including an externed offender.
Acting on instructions to monitor illegal activities, history-sheeters, externed criminals and persons possessing illegal weapons, the Kale Padal Police investigation team was conducting patrols in its jurisdiction when police personnel received a tip-off from a confidential informant. The information indicated that history-sheeter Akash Santosh Bharti, Ganesh Baban Londhe and two associates were waiting on a secluded road between Heaven Park and Laxmi Park with suspicious objects, allegedly intending to commit a cognizable offence. Police suspected the objects to be firearms.
The information was immediately conveyed to Assistant Police Inspector Amit Shete and Police Sub-Inspector Vinayak Gurav, who informed Senior Police Inspector Girisha Nimbalkar. A police team laid a trap at the location.
Police successfully apprehended Akash Bharti and his associate Deepak Ram Bist. However, accused Ganesh Londhe managed to flee under the cover of darkness. A search of the arrested duo led to the seizure of one country-made pistol, an additional magazine and two live cartridges on June 2, 2026.
Based on further intelligence, police tracked down and arrested absconding accused Ganesh Londhe on June 4, 2026, from behind Dagai Mata Forest near Tarawade Vasti in Pune. A search of his possession resulted in the recovery of another country-made pistol, an additional magazine and two live cartridges.
In total, police seized two country-made pistols, two additional magazines and four live cartridges collectively valued at ā¹1.44 lakh.
The arrested accused have been identified as Akash Santosh Bharti (27), Deepak Ram Bist (20) and Ganesh Baban Londhe (25), an externed accused linked to Wanowrie Police Station.
A case has been registered at Kale Padal Police Station under Crime Register No. 250/2026 under Section 3(25) of the Arms Act, Sections 37(1)(3), 135 and 142 of the Maharashtra Police Act, along with relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). All accused have been arrested and further investigation is being conducted by Assistant Police Inspector Amit Shete.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Jeevan Beniwal (Zone 6), Assistant Commissioner of Police Atul Navgire (Hadapsar Division), and Senior Police Inspector Girisha Nimbalkar. The team included API Amit Shete, PSI Vinayak Gurav, Police Havaldars Pravin Kalbhor, Amol Fadtare, Daud Sayyed, Pratik Lahigude, Shahid Shaikh, and police personnel Vishal Thombre, Laxman Kale, Atul Pandharkar, Nitin Dhole, Saddam Tamboli, Pradip Bediskar, Mahadev Shinde and Giriraj Jagdale.
