Pune: ITI Student Stabbed To Death By Classmate At Hostel In Ambegaon; Accused Arrested
Pune, June 6, 2026: A 23-year-old Industrial Training Institute (ITI) student was allegedly stabbed to death by his classmate at a hostel in Gonwadi village of Ambegaon taluka, Pune district, in a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the educational community.
The deceased has been identified as Saurabh Santosh Sakhare, a first-year ITI student from Chinchpur village in Beed district. He was pursuing his studies at the institute and residing in the hostel.
According to preliminary police investigations, Saurabh and his classmate, Ameya Bhikaji Kokare (19), had gone to sleep on the terrace of the hostel on Friday night. During the late-night hours, an argument reportedly broke out between the two students. The exact reason behind the dispute is yet to be established.
Police said the disagreement escalated, following which Ameya allegedly attacked Saurabh with a sharp weapon. Saurabh sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries due to excessive blood loss.
After receiving information about the incident, a team from Ghodegaon Police Station rushed to the spot, conducted a preliminary investigation, and detained the suspect. The accused has since been arrested and further legal proceedings are underway.
Police officials are investigating all possible angles, including whether there was any prior enmity between the two students or whether the attack was the result of a sudden altercation. The motive behind the crime has not yet been determined.
The incident has created an atmosphere of fear and concern among students and local residents. Family members of the deceased travelled from Beed district to the hospital after being informed of the tragedy.
Authorities have assured that a detailed investigation is being carried out and that the circumstances leading to the fatal attack will be thoroughly examined.
