Pimpri Chinchwad, June 19, 2026: In view of the critically low water storage in Pavana Dam, the primary source of water supply for Pimpri Chinchwad city, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has decided to impose a 15 percent reduction in water supply across the city from June 20, 2026.

The civic administration stated that the available water stock in the dam has reached a concerning level. Considering the delay in the onset of the monsoon and the need to prevent a potential water crisis in the coming months, the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure.

The water cut aims to ensure the availability of drinking water for residents and facilitate efficient management of the remaining water resources. Citizens have been urged to use water responsibly and avoid wastage during the period of water rationing.

To curb water misuse, the municipal corporation has imposed the following restrictions:

* Use of drinking water for filling or maintaining swimming pools has been completely prohibited.

* Housing societies and residential complexes must use recycled (STP-treated) water instead of potable water for gardens, lawns, and tree maintenance.

* Drinking water should not be used for washing vehicles.

* No new water connections will be issued during the water-cut period.

* Commercial establishments, construction projects, and other non-domestic consumers will have to arrange their own water requirements.

* Any use of potable water for purposes other than domestic use, schools, and hospitals will invite penal action.

To ensure effective implementation of the restrictions, the municipal corporation will deploy special inspection teams. Strict action will be taken against individuals or establishments found misusing water.

The civic body emphasized that water is a limited and invaluable natural resource and appealed to citizens to adopt water-saving practices. Residents have been advised to promptly repair leakages, avoid keeping taps running unnecessarily, conserve water at the household level, and promote rainwater harvesting.

“Every drop saved today will ensure water security tomorrow,” said PCMC Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi, urging citizens to cooperate with the municipal corporation and use water judiciously while avoiding wastage.
