Pune: Wanawadi - NIBM Road Residents Struggle As Water Crisis Worsens
Pune, June 23, 2026: The worsening water crisis in Pune took centre stage during the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) General Body Meeting on Monday, as concerns mounted over dwindling dam storage levels, delayed monsoon rains, and growing dependence on private water tankers.
Raising the issue during the meeting, Sahil Kedari, Corporator of Prabhag 18 (Wanawadi–Salunke Vihar), questioned the civic administration over the lack of a transparent and reliable water supply schedule across the city. He highlighted that despite June nearing its end, the monsoon has yet to make a significant impact, resulting in increased pressure on the city’s already strained water resources.

Kedari pointed out that the irregular and disrupted water distribution system has left thousands of residents struggling to meet their daily water needs. Several localities are facing uncertainty due to inconsistent supply timings, inadequate storage infrastructure, and the absence of alternative water sources such as borewells.
The situation has forced many citizens to rely on private water tankers, which are becoming increasingly difficult to procure due to rising demand across the city. Residents have also expressed concern over rapidly declining groundwater levels, warning that excessive extraction could aggravate the crisis if rainfall remains deficient.
During the discussion, Kedari urged the PMC Water Supply Department to immediately publish a clear area-wise water distribution schedule, deploy additional municipal water tankers in severely affected localities, and ensure equitable water supply across all parts of the city.
He also stressed that the absence of proper planning and emergency arrangements has added to the hardship faced by residents, particularly in water-stressed areas such as Wanawadi, NIBM road and Salunke Vihar. With uncertainty over rainfall continuing, citizens are demanding urgent intervention from the civic administration to prevent the situation from worsening in the coming weeks.
