Pune: Bone Allegedly Found in Vegetarian Thali At Camp Restaurant, Customers Demand FDA Action
Pune: A controversy erupted at a popular restaurant in Pune’s Camp area after a group of customers allegedly discovered a piece of bone in a vegetarian thali, raising serious concerns over food safety, consumer trust, and respect for dietary preferences.
The incident reportedly took place at Pind Punjab restaurant on Moledina Road, where four vegetarian friends had gone for lunch. According to the customers, they ordered Paneer Tikka Masala Dal Makhani Thalis and were shocked to find what appeared to be a bone inside one of the meals.
The customers immediately brought the matter to the attention of the restaurant staff. They claimed that employees initially acknowledged that the object resembled a bone. However, instead of offering an apology, the staff allegedly responded dismissively, stating that cross-contact between vegetarian and non-vegetarian food was common in restaurants and that such situations could occur anywhere.
The customers further alleged that the restaurant management attempted to resolve the issue by waiving the food bill of ₹2,022 and offering complimentary takeaway parcels. The offer was reportedly declined by the diners, who insisted that the matter was not about compensation but about food safety and respect for vegetarian dietary practices.
The incident has sparked outrage among local residents and consumers, with many calling for a thorough investigation by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Citizens have demanded strict action against any lapses in food handling and kitchen operations that may have led to the alleged contamination.
No official statement from the restaurant management was immediately available at the time of reporting. Authorities are yet to comment on whether a formal complaint has been lodged regarding the incident.
