Pimpri-Chinchwad, June 25, 2026 :

The long-pending Pawana Direct Pipeline Project, considered crucial for Pimpri-Chinchwad’s future water supply, has received a fresh boost. A joint meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been scheduled for July 3, 2026, to discuss the project and chart the way forward.

BJP leader and Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge said he has coordinated with Maval MLA Sunil Shelke and will continue to pursue the ambitious project to ensure its implementation. The meeting will be attended by public representatives from both Pimpri-Chinchwad and Maval across party lines.

The project has sparked discussions at various levels in Pimpri-Chinchwad and Maval, with farmers, villagers, social organisations, and public representatives expressing differing views. However, considering the city’s rapidly growing population, the direct pipeline from Pawana Dam is seen as essential to meet future water requirements.

MLA Mahesh Landge had requested Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to convene a joint meeting of elected representatives and officials to accelerate the project. Responding positively, the Chief Minister has scheduled the meeting.

Landge said he has consistently raised the demand for the Pawana Direct Pipeline Project during Assembly sessions over the past several years. He added that discussions have also been held with Maval MLA Sunil Shelke to ensure the project is implemented through consensus and coordination.

Those invited to the meeting include Maval MP Shrirang Barne, Deputy Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Anna Bansode, Maval MLA Sunil Shelke, former Minister of State Bala Bhegade, Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap, MLC Uma Khapre, MLA Amit Gorkhe, along with senior officials including the Chief Secretary of the Water Resources Department, the Divisional Commissioner, and the District Collector.

About a year ago, the BJP-led Mahayuti government revoked the earlier status quo order on the Pawana Direct Pipeline Project, raising hopes for its implementation. Chief Minister Fadnavis has also expressed a positive stand on the issue in the past.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at 3 pm on Friday, July 3, 2026, at Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai. It is expected to play a key role in resolving issues related to the project, which is directly linked to the long-term water needs of nearly 4 million residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Mahesh Landge’s Statement

“The Pawana Direct Pipeline Project is extremely important for the future water security of Pimpri-Chinchwad. We have consistently raised this issue in the Assembly and during meetings with the government, and it is now moving towards implementation.

At the same time, the concerns and interests of farmers, villagers, and local residents in Maval will be given equal importance. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the upcoming meeting will seek to build consensus among all stakeholders and arrive at a positive, inclusive, and widely acceptable solution.

Our objective is to ensure a sustainable solution to the water needs of nearly 40 lakh residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad without causing injustice to any section of society.”
