Pune, July 1, 2026: A Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) attached to the Deccan Police Station has been suspended after allegedly misbehaving with customers and staff at a café while on night patrol. The action was taken after CCTV footage of the incident surfaced on social media and drew widespread attention.

According to the Pune Police, PSI Sandeep Kadam was on night duty on June 6 when he visited the Flying Gypsy Café on Shirole Road at around 1:45 am. The café was reportedly in the process of closing for the day when the incident took place.

Police said Kadam allegedly used the baton he was carrying to knock down coffee glasses and other food items placed on the café counter. He is also accused of ordering customers to leave the premises immediately and using abusive and intimidating language with the café staff.

The entire incident was captured on the café’s CCTV cameras. After the footage went viral on social media, the conduct of the officer came under scrutiny, with the department stating that his actions had tarnished the image of the police force in the eyes of the public.

Based on the findings, Additional Commissioner of Police Rajesh Bansode issued suspension orders against Kadam, stating that his behaviour was irresponsible, violated police discipline, and was unbecoming of a police officer.

Meanwhile, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has already issued detailed operational guidelines for hotels, restaurants, bars, and pubs across the city. The directives require establishments to adhere to prescribed closing hours and clearly outline the legal procedure police personnel must follow in the event of violations, underscoring the importance of lawful and professional enforcement.
