Pune, July 3: Serious concerns have been raised over the unsafe transportation of schoolchildren in Pune’s Khadki area, where several school vehicles are allegedly carrying students far beyond their permitted seating capacity. The practice has sparked anxiety among parents, who are questioning who would be held accountable if a major accident were to occur.

According to transport regulations, school vehicles are required to carry only the number of students approved for their seating capacity. However, reports indicate that some vehicles are routinely overcrowded, forcing additional students into already packed vehicles and putting their safety at significant risk.

In the event of an accident, primary responsibility could rest with the school management, the vehicle owner, and the driver for failing to ensure safe transportation. Questions may also be raised about the functioning of the traffic police if regular inspections and enforcement against such violations are not carried out.

Parents have urged schools to ensure safe and compliant transportation for students, emphasizing that children’s safety must not be compromised. Residents have called on the authorities to conduct strict inspections of school vehicles operating in the Khadki area and take prompt action against those violating safety norms.
