Pune, July 5: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Pune district for Monday, July 6, 2026, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall in parts of the district along with the possibility of intense rain spells, waterlogging, and disruption to normal life.

In view of the severe weather warning and to ensure the safety of students, the district administration has declared a holiday for all government, private, aided, and unaided schools across Pune district on Monday. The decision was announced by District Collector Jitendra dudi as a precautionary measure to minimize travel during the expected adverse weather conditions.

According to the order, all anganwadis, as well as primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools of all mediums in Pune city and Pune district (rural), will remain closed on Monday, July 6. The administration said the decision has been taken as a precaution in view of the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall and to prioritize the safety of children.

However, the order clarifies that all principals, headmasters, teachers, and non-teaching staff must report to their respective institutions during regular working hours. They have been instructed to remain available for any duties related to disaster management or emergency response as directed by the local administration.

The district administration has urged parents, students, and school authorities to cooperate with the advisory and avoid unnecessary movement. Authorities have also directed all concerned departments to remain on alert and be prepared to respond to any rain-related emergencies.

Collector Dudi appealed to citizens to step out only if absolutely necessary and advised them to stay away from rivers, streams, waterfalls, low-lying areas, and other vulnerable locations where flooding or strong water currents may pose a risk. Residents have also been asked to follow weather updates and advisories issued by the India Meteorological Department and the district administration.

Emergency response teams and local authorities have been instructed to remain vigilant as heavy rainfall is expected to continue across Pune district. Citizens are urged to report any emergency situations to the concerned authorities and strictly follow official instructions until weather conditions improve.
