Pune Traffic Police Issues Rain Advisory; Warns of Congestion on Key City Roads on Monday, July 6
Pune, July 5: In view of the ongoing heavy rainfall, the Pune City Traffic Police has issued a public advisory warning commuters of significant traffic congestion across several major roads and junctions on Monday. Based on data from the Area Traffic Management System (ATMS) and TrafficCure, motorists have been urged to avoid non-essential travel during morning and evening peak hours.
According to the advisory, the city’s average traffic speed on July 5 was around 20 kmph, while average speeds during the morning and evening peak hours dropped to 18.5 kmph and 15.7 kmph, respectively.

The traffic police said slow-moving traffic is expected on major corridors including Tilak Road, Shastri Road, Shivaji Road, JM Road, FC Road, Karve Road, Paud Road, SB Road, Solapur Road, and Satara Road.
Commuters have also been advised to expect delays around Pune Railway Station, Alankar Chowk, Council Hall Chowk, Wadia College Chowk, and the Bund Garden area.
The advisory requests citizens to:
- Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, especially during peak hours.
- Refrain from parking near junctions, bus stops, flyovers, pedestrian crossings, or waterlogged stretches.
- Avoid wrong-side driving, lane cutting, and sudden braking.
- Use public transport or carpool whenever possible.
- Follow traffic diversions and instructions issued by traffic police personnel.
- Slow down near schools, hospitals, markets, and pedestrian crossings.
The Pune Traffic Police also warned that vehicles causing traffic obstruction will be towed or penalised. Citizens have been encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and cooperate with authorities to ensure smoother traffic movement and road safety during the monsoon.
