Pune, July 16, 2026: In an unusual theft case, 800 live chickens worth around ₹1.6 lakh were allegedly stolen from a parked goods vehicle in Pune’s Camp area, prompting the Lashkar Police to register a case against unidentified persons.

The incident took place in the early hours of July 13 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Market in Camp.

According to police, the complainant, Dhananjay Urad (50), works as a manager at a poultry supply centre that distributes broiler chickens to various retail outlets across Pune. A tempo carrying thousands of live chickens had arrived from Phaltan on Sunday night and was parked in the market’s designated parking area.

After parking the vehicle, the driver reportedly left the spot to rest for the night. Taking advantage of the unattended vehicle, unknown persons allegedly stole 800 live chickens from the tempo.

The theft came to light when the driver returned the following morning and found a large number of chickens missing. He immediately informed the management, following which a complaint was lodged with the police.

The complaint states that each chicken was valued at approximately ₹200, taking the total value of the stolen birds to ₹1.6 lakh.

The Lashkar Police have registered an FIR against unidentified accused and launched an investigation. Officials are examining CCTV footage from the parking area and nearby locations to identify those involved in the theft.
